Another week another hate crime.

Friends and family are mourning the death of 15 year old gay Baltimore student Jason Mattison Jr. who was found dead on November 10. Mattison was raped, gagged with a pillowcase, stabbed repeatedly in the head and throat, and shoved into an upstairs closet of his aunt's home where he was staying after leaving his mother's residence for undisclosed reasons.

Dante Parrish, 35, a longtime family friend has been charged with first degree murder. A Baltimore police spokesman would say only that Jason "was staying at his aunt's house." It was there that Jason met Parrish, with whom the spokesman said the teen had a "forced sexual relationship." Parrish who has a criminal past plead guilty to second-degree murder in the shooting of a Maryland man in March 1999.

From The Baltimore Sun:

Wanda Williams, his paternal grandmother, one of the first Jason confided in about being gay and who handed him a few dollars now and then for food and clothes, questioned how other relatives could have allowed the boy to be in the same house with Parrish, given his violent past.

"I haven't cried so much this entire life," Williams said. "My grandson hollering for help and there is nobody there to help him."

When Jason came out as gay, there was some dissension in the family and though Williams said she stood by her grandson, his declaration caught her off guard.

"I accepted his sexual preferences," she said. "But I told him, 'You're young and don't understand life.' I told him, 'Plenty of young women would love to be with you.' He said he likes boys. Young people don't like to listen to adults, but I told him I'm not going to push him away."

Many of his friends learned of Jason's death from rumors on MySpace. They didn't believe it until they arrived at school and found his chair empty and a somber English teacher to break the tragic news.

Jason was one of the most popular kids at school, his English teacher said, always first to class, always first to the cafeteria, where students fought to sit at his table, always first to turn in his homework and always getting near-perfect grades.

Jason wanted to be a pediatrician. Today he is being buried and will never have the chance to fulfill his dream.

Another black gay youth being killed before being able to reach their potential.

Like Lee Daniels said, it's no surprise many of us leave "the black community" at the earliest opportunity.

I'd like to know what the aunt has to say.

Im just damn tired. Really i've about had enough. Next time some mofo comes saying shit at me im not show i'll restrain myself from shooting the m**f***.. ok maybe not. But how many lifes are going to be lost before someone says enough already? Especially since the courts of law can never be trusted to administer justice.

Where was his mum, dad, siblings... Where the hell was everybody?

He was young, pretty and he seemed to have a bright future to look forward to.SMH!

This is a terrible thing that happened, but just because the victim is disenfranchised does not automatically a hate crime make.

What the fuck does "girls wanting to be with you" have to do with anything grandma? AND? He's not heterosexual so why would he have gave a damn.

Ugh the ignorance of our community astounds me. And she was one of the one's who "understood" him?

I hope the man who killed him ROTS in prison or gets the death penalty. All the people willing to have consensual sex in this country and he has to rape and murder someone? Sick bastard.

UGH!

While he was not trans, today is national trans remembrance day. Today is a day to remember all people who have lost their lives due to perceptions about there perceived gender identity or sexuality. My heart breaks every year as the names list that gets read allowed in memorial grows double-fold. Please honor and support all fellow queers. We need to advocate and educate through our unity to help prevent these hate crimes against us.

Wait is this a hate crime in the sense that he was targeted for being queer? Because if he was murdered by someone with whom he was in a forced relationship, it sounds more like rape, which is absolutely terrifying as well.

This is horrible news. I almost broke down while reading of this tragedy. It is so unbelievable that there is so much hate in the world. Such a young life lost in vain.

Sometimes I wonder how people can get so evil and hateful. I hope the murderer finds truth in his life and learns to be a better person.

This proves a point that several of my friends and I have been making amongst ourselves recently.

The point is that currently a black gay boy/man cannot be "out" AND safe in "black constructs". Of course, there are exceptions to the rule but the exceptions do not disprove the rule.

The best thing an under age (under 18 years old) black gay boy can do is try to stay under the radar and as soon as he turns 18 leave the so-called "black community" (which doesn't exist anymore) and toxic relatives behind. You "leave" by going to technical school to learn a skill/trade so you can make a living and become become INDEPENDENT. Or you leave by going to college to get an education. Or you just leave. Period.

It simply is not safe to "come out" in a typical black contruct to toxic relatives who think being gay is absolutely the worst thing a boy/man can be. Because so many black people are so dependent on "religion", I do not believe the masses of black people are going to change their thinking on this.

There are some black gays who will say that if black gays leave the so-called "black community", they have no place to go except, perhaps, the white gay community. And?

Black gay men (particularly those who are openly gay or "clockable",i.e., "effeminate") will probably be PHYSICALLY safer in and around mostly white gay constructs then they would ordinarily be in black constructs controlled by typical straight black people.

How black gay men navigate thru the maze of white gay racism is up to each black gay individual. But they would still be PHYSICALLY safer far away from typical black constructs which are so toxic to the black gay spirit.

My advice to black gay men and boys:
Get away from "black constructs" controlled/dominated by straight black people asap. When you remove yourself from the direct line of fire you can then begin to develop a coherent plan of action for your life and future.

I watched this video, did not like it and think it's very dangerous and deceiving. Most of the murders - including recently of 15 year old Jason Mattison in Baltimore - were committed by other Black homosexual people or no one knows what the sexuality of the culprit was. Even in the now famous [White] Matthew Shepard case, it has yet to be stated that Shepard was a drug dealer/user and his death was drug related, and the guy that killed him was once a sex and drug partner of Shepard's. A hate crime is when someone is criminally victimized by someone not of their group, who is oppressing them. Neither this nor Jason Mattison's murder classic hate crimes.

Another problem I have with this White gay paradigmatic agenda in Black face is the clear evidence of its Black cultural irrelevance: use of the word "Queer." By and large, Black people may say faggot, punk or pussy to attack a homosexual. But NOT queer. This likely well intended video, overall, is misleading, manipulative, and as a result, is more of a problem than a solution for Black people. If we want to change anti-homosexual attitudes in Black communities we can’t use deception. When is someone going to make a video on self-hate crimes in this community?
