The Great Debaters a new film by actor/director Denzel Washington and producer Oprah Winfrey were a main draw to get people into the theaters to see this film over the holidays. But I'm sure many moviegoers will leave the theater impressed with the talented and charismatic Nate Parker...I sure did.

The Great Debaters tells the story of a championship debate team from Wiley College in rural Texas in the 1930's who went on to achieve national recognition by defeating an all white team at Harvard University(fictionalized for the film, it was actually USC). While Denzel Washington is clearly the star of this film he gives all of his young actors a chance to shine and this couldn't be more true in the case of Nate Parker.

Nate plays the intelligent, well read, articulate, passionate, and womanizing Henry Lowe. For two hours I was completely enthralled in his performance and I must say his good looks. This young man has star quality, beauty and talent.

If you saw the movie PRIDE then you're probably familiar with Nate as he also had a role in this film. With all of the beefcake and homo erotic moments in PRIDE you would think I would have seen it at the theater but I haven't, but now that I've been introduced to Nate you can be assured that I will be making a trip Blockbuster real soon.

The Great Debaters is hands down one of the best films of 2007. It has been nominated for a Golden Globe award for best picture and I'm sure it's only a matter of time before Nate's name is on the ballot if he continues to turn in great performances like this one. Run out and see The Great Debaters if you haven't already, Nate alone makes it worth it.

Pay careful attention. If we don't go support this movie, Nate Parker (As talented and Phyne as he is) will be relegated to playing thug gangster roles. His next film is as a Vietnem soldier. I can remember a number of promising young brothas that went from supporting to soldiers to gangsters. Mark my words.

I saw this film on Sunday and it was truly phenomenal. While the movie made me appreciate my heritage and the legacy that I've come from - it also saddened me as a whole, we've moved away from true community building. But I was still reminded that in spite of, I can still overcome.

The acting was great - while a lot of young black actors never step up to the plate, the three lead actors really shined. Nate has been around for a minute and I am sure his stock is going to rise after this. I kept saying in my head that he was the new Denzel...you can tell that he really studied Denzel, but more so listened to the direction that he gave as a fellow Black Man, Actor and mentor.

I saw the film Great Debaters and was blown away by its simplicity and infectuous nature to invoke inspiration in a post modern world at times bereft of the ability to see hope and transcend experiences. My affinity with a film like this lies in its gift to enable you too look deep in yourself, in terms of crippling self-doubt and believe in one self to overcome. In tracing the trajectory of this powerful narrative i was engulfed by its challenge and subversiveness to the status quo, as foucualt once wrote discourse is in power, and no matter how oppressed or repressed one is language can become your emancipation. In the character of henry played by Nate Parker lies the dichotomy of pain and courage, it is through his intelligence and love of books he evidently becomes the mentor indeed in place of Denzel in instilling belief in the younger James Farmer. I identified with Henry the most his ability to cultivate the richeness and in indeed internal conflict of a character gave the audience something important. This film does not carry the same cliches i have seen in other films, neither does it stray to far from a genre we are all familiar with one thing remains is this film teaches you something more powerful and that lies within you!
Please can you tell me if Nate Parker has a fansite or my space
