"The reason why we don't believe there are black gay men in long-term relationships is because we don't see them, they're not out. But just because you don't see them doesn't mean they don't exist." - DJ on The Doo- Dirty Show, Thursday, November 8, 2007

So with that being said, I thought it was important to show beautiful images of SGL couples of color who are in it for the long haul. Couples who have proven through love, respect, and a lot of hard work they've been able to accomplish what some people in and out of our community believe to be impossible, monogamous and fulfilling long term-relationships. It can happen for all of us. Claim it and it shall be yours ! Have a great weekend until we meet again on Monday.

Peace and Love,
Darian

It would have been cool to have some captions because I don't know who those all of those guys are, but good for them. :)

I think part of the problem is that black gay men don't have anyone who is really visible to use as a model relationship. White gay people have Siegfried and Roy (well allegedly, but come on now), Elton John & David Furnish, Melissa Etheridge and Tammy Lynn Michaels etc.

I'm not saying that there are NONE but they surely are not that visible to me. Hell, for that matter, is that high school yearbook couple even still together now? We know how that goes.

Anyway, I think that if we ever were to have more visible couples, a lot of black gay men would feel less hopeless about having that monogomus long term partnership.

I think we spend too much time trying to be with someone who looks good, versus being with someone who we actually connect with. I think people should enter relationships looking for connections and common interests and goals. Yes, you need to be attracted to the person and no you don't want to date someone who is a brother to you, but one should look for that friendship connection along with the romance and attraction. I think many gay men spend too much time on the attraction part and never really get in to the friend part.

Plenty of hetero couples who have been together for years have been saying it over and over again: "I married my best friend"

Hey Captain! I was wondering when your viscious homophobic side would resurface, you've been to nice lately...almost Christ-like. Welcome back.

Cap, you must be lonely too. ;) Maybe you should find someone to cuddle up so you can spend more time with them and less time posting here. Just a thought.

Thanks for the posting. I agree, it is important for the SGL community to know that long term romantic relationships are possible. My partner and I have been together for over 10 years now and I can't imagine a life without him. Thanks again for this posting.

20 years next year (yeah, I don't believe it either!:) and we know another black couple who will also celebrate the same in 2008 as well. We may be 'invisible' but we're here.
