If you come across the new issue of HIV PLUS Magazine or The Advocate you will probably see a familiar face. My friend and fellow blogger
Jonathan Perry is featured as one of the 8 people who are changing the way the world views HIV and the people who are living with the disease.

Jonathan has been apart of the fight to increase awareness and provide the necessary information to young people to spare them from learning about HIV the hard way. Lately his focus has been less on prevention but on hope and inspiring people to become apart of a solution to eradicate this virus that has affected so many people within the Black community.

"Education is still good. Abstinence, monogamy, and condoms are still good. But, a vaccine is is our best hope for ending this awful pandemic. We are who we have been waiting for. It is [Black] people who are going to have to move beyond the things we have allowed, so easily to beset us", said Jonathan.

I'm really close to Jonathan(he's actually sitting right next to me as I'm typing) and I know the person behind the magazine layouts and the Oprah Winfrey Show. I would never tell him this in person because it would go to his head, but I'm really proud of him. It takes courage to reveal something so personal to complete strangers.

So go grab a copy of these two magazines and support one of our own. If I have to listen to him revel in his "newfound celebrity" you should too. LOL !

And I'm sure you wrote that ridiculous self righteous comment as you were struggling not to watch the videos from your gay porn collection. You're turning into my blog stalker, get a life!

the captain,

let get a few things, people will not change their behavior until they have a reason. unfortunately, witht he advent of new drugs, people see hiv as more manageable than cancer, diabetes or even herpes. so at this juncture our community's bes hope [is] a vaccine. which leads me to my other point. vaccines prevent illnesses...they [don't] cure them. so i relly need you to get educated on the nature of the business before you become yet another purveyor of [mis]information.
sexual fantasies...lol... you really have no clue...attitudes like that are what keep people suppressed. the judgments and ranting of an ostensibly str8 man, should -- in this case be reserved for the community to which you identify, because it is obviously biased...in your mind everything that homosexuals fantasize about is vile. so can you please save that for someone who doesn't know how to negotiate his way through the internalized homophobic syllogisms. and fyi...can't is a word reserved for people whose intention it is to fail so i guess in that one instance you are right [you] can't win...so just stop fighting.

I understand what the Captain is saying.

[did I just say that?]

In a much more simplistic way... finding a vaccine is very important, but a strong shift in collective thinking is also important.

We should be able to use our sexual energy for love in a positive and healthy way, so that way we don't have to continue spreading other STDs in the future.

I understand sex is used for pleasure, but do we have multiple partners or continue in risky behavior?

As men can we do a little bit better then what we are doing?

But the main point of this post is to commend a man who is willing to stand up and make people do the same!

Congrats John!

shawn...i agree, but right now that is not happening.
and until that does happen what are we to do...sit by needlessly and aimlessly and wait until we are all infected to focus on an antedate...i don't see how that would be a wise approach to fighting any disease ESPECIALLY hiv. does that resonate with you on any level?

As for the love in a positive and healthy way...what way do you propose we express sexual energy...it is only so long before the energy designated for sex can be redirected, before it actually seeks out its initial intention which is sex. Have you every redirected that sexual energy for so long you felt like you were about to bust...thas what that is...redirection only last for so long...ask darian...lol

I agree that we can do better than what we are doing...but is is neither your nor my place to impose our mores and values on others who do not believe like we do. It is hard not to use ethical imperatives to the degree that bible thumpers do. I appreciate the way you asked that question as opposed to making a declarative that does not resonate with the culture with which you identify.

Thank u for the love shawnqt

now for you mr captain, all the curriculum vitae in the world, do not earn you the experience life has to offer, so, please keep that. Stick to what you know, you are not qualified to speak to the whole of the Black condition. My experience puts my in contact with people all over this planet ESPECIALLY Black people and when I open my mouth it is because they have shared their experience with me. There is life beyond the boundaries of Illinois. Experience it!

Your ethical imperative are similar to those of the church man. I know people who have slept around their whole life are still negative and i know people who have only had unprotected sex 1 time. Seems to me that has less to do with sexual affairs and more to do with an ironically fucked up twist of fate.

Your cv is really cute, but i will not list mine...it is so much more extensive than yours

P.S. I have a degree in philosophy & psychology and will be getting my phd in sociology with an emphasis in race and urban studies, but you know...i don't tout those things...they did not prepare me for life...life prepared me for those things. That my friend is why you will always get people to list but they will never understand you and when you part this planet they will forget. Because you flaunt your degree and not your humanity.
